September 2021 A Night at the Arcade Polished Gamers Box

PR SAMPLE / PAID PGB EMPLOYEE

I am loving this month’s theme! I honestly love visiting the arcade when I get the chance and I really need to visit a new one that opened up in town here because they have my favorite arcade game–Tron! I’m also pretty partial to any Star Wars arcade game and I even got to play a co-op one with my boyfriend at one point. Oh and before I forget, this month’s theme isn’t *just* arcade games themselves. This is a full on night at the arcade! Think all things arcade–the carpet, the snacks, the smells, and even the neon lights! Anything and everything Arcade.

Oh and if you haven’t had a chance to see it before, “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” is one of my favorite movies / documentaries. It follows quite a few folks in the competitive arcade gaming scene, including Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell. IMDB link here. It looks like you can buy or rent it on Amazon Prime or Youtube! I still have an old DVD copy but I highly recommend checking it out. I think it’s definitely worth a watch!

As always, first up is that sweet sweet FAQ then all the fabulous items!

What is the Polished Gamers Box?
The Polished Gamers Box is a game themed “box” featuring several makers each month. Each box will have a gaming related theme and feature different types of indie products that include nail polish, nail care, body care, wax, and other handmade items.
Every month a Facebook Event is created within the Polished Gamers Facebook group and within that event, a post is made for each item. Each month an album is also created that features a collage of each item.
What if I don’t want to order everything in the box?
That’s the beauty of the Polished Gamers Box! You can pick and choose what you want to order. No minimums or maximums, just order what items you want!
When can I get the box?
The box will launch on the 15th of every month and will be available for preorder for a five day period.
Preorders will open at 11:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM MT / 1:00 PM CT / 2:00 PM ET on the 15th
Preorders will close at 9:00 PM PT / 10:00 PM MT / 11:00 PM CT / 11:59 PM ET on the 20th
The turn around time will be approximately 3-4 weeks after the box preorder ends on the 20th of each month.
Where do I go to order the box?
polishedgamersbox.com
Is there a support email if I have questions about my order?
Yes! Feel free to email polishedgamers@gmail.com if you have questions about your order or the box!
Is there Polished Gamers social media I can follow?
There is!
Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/polishedgamers/
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/polishedgamers/
Discord (This is the invite link to the channel): https://discord.com/invite/TQhTYcJ
How much is shipping for the box?
Domestic: $4 flat rate shipping
International: At cost shipping (website will calculate at checkout)
Customs forms are auto generated for international orders and will not be changed or adjusted to reflect a different price other than the real full cost of your order.

STARTING JANUARY 2021
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING CHANGES:
With changes to the VAT rules in the UK, PGB will unfortunately have to discontinue shipping to the UK for orders under £150. We would encourage group buys to the UK. Unfortunately we are unable to hold multiple orders so that once combined, the orders reach that total. Changes could occur in the future but for now unfortunately this is the solution.
If an order accidentally makes it through, unfortunately we will have to refund it.
If you do make multiple orders, shipping overages can/will be refunded if the multiple purchases are made using the same name.
Shipping overages are refunded when orders are actually packaged up. Combining orders is a time consuming and manual task that the system does not just automatically do for us, so this does take a little extra time. But we do know it helps take some pressure off of releases with low cap items
Are there caps on items?
Each maker will set caps for their items and things can sell out!
Can items return and be sold again?
All Polished Gamers Box items are exclusive to the month’s box. BUT a monthly “respawn” began late 2020. Each month a max of 5 makers will bring back an item that was released in a previous Polished Gamers Box. These items can be the original formula, or a 2.0 new formula.
The items that return are up to the makers, but be on the look out in this group or in brands’ fan groups for polls on what could / should return!

My swatches are 2 coats of polish and topped with 1 coat of top coat.

Well, 1422 had me “Wreck it Ralph.” That is definitely one of my favorite movies and Vanellope is so awesome and hilarious! I love the take on traveling through arcade games and I honestly do treasure the movie so much. BUT back to the polish! This polish applied super easily and I did think I might need 3 coats for full coverage but 2 coats appears to be plenty! There may be a little bit of visible nail line at certain angles, but at others it looks like full coverage. I think I did do somewhat thicker coats so I let the polish dry a little bit before top coating to avoid smooshing just incase (I do that with all crellies).
I love the colors of the flakies and they mix in so well with the polish and the green base color. I love that you can see the different layers of the flakies even in between the coats of polish and I love how much they stand out matte!!

Oh my goodness these flakies!
This polish applied easily and I think I might recommend thicker coats as I think that helped me get more of the base color and flakies on each nail for full coverage with only 2 coats. This polish can appear almost a little subtle at first, but oh my gosh the flakies shimmer and shine like crazy! There is also just so much depth to this polish! Just peep my macro shot. You can see every little flakie in the 2 coats! I of course cannot get over this one matte. You can see each individual flakie stand out and I love it!

Description: No one likes to see the taunting Game Over screen indicating we’ve once again failed.
However, you’re going to love putting this “Game Over” vinyl sticker anywhere you choose. There is no possible way to fail!
You can leave the saying stacked or spread it out. This sticker comes in red.
Price: $5.00 USD
Size: 2 in x 4 in
Cap: 50
Inspiration: The Game Over screen that means we have failed…once again.

Folks may not like seeing the Game Over screen but I love seeing a new AMUL decal!
As the description mentions, you can leave the decal stacked as it is in my photos when you place it, or you can place each individual letter (or whole word) spaced out! Now, I really like decals and stickers so I need all the IKEA Alex real-estate I can get, so I placed it as is. 🙂
I love the shade of red used and each letter is about the size of a quarter. I had no issues applying it and it makes a great addition to any surface! Be sure to check out the photos below and their captions that go over decal application!

Your first step is to pick where you want to put this decal! I keep putting more and more AMUL decals together on my Alex drawers!

Then remove the decal from the white backing sheet. If pieces of the decal stick to the white sheet you can gently place the clear sheet back down over that piece of the decal and rub over it so it sticks to the clear sheet. Or you can gently push a finger nail under the decal piece that will not stick to the clear sheet and lift it up just enough so it is then stuck to the clear sheet.

Well, I am very much in love with this polish. Tron? Purple AND silver? Holo? This is definitely now on my list of all time favorite polishes. It applied super easily and the formula is just perfect. It also dried quickly so I was able to do 2 coats and top coat pretty quickly. The shift and shimmer in this one is just fantastic and honestly I don’t think I was able to capture every single shift. This polish is just ultra complex and every angle and every lighting condition makes it look different or shift differently. This is one of those that you will just have to see how amazing it is in person!

THE GLOW. OH MY GOSH. I am just in awe of how pretty the purple glow is! I think I may just put this one back on after I finish up swatching. I just can’t believe how pretty this is! GAH! BUT I do want to mention, I do not think I captured it well enough. The purple glow is much more visible in person but it blends in so well with the blue that I think my camera just blended them together. Be sure to check out all the other fabulous swatches! This one is just stunning.
Okay, let me stop drooling and say that it applied like a dream and 2 coats was plenty for full coverage and I just. Y’all. The glow. I just can’t even.
The holo is also fabulous and I just can’t get enough of this one.

Geekish Glitter Lacquer

Boogie Bump

Shop (this is an affiliate link) | Facebook | Facebook Group | Instagram | TikTok

Description: A black jelly base with blue-purple-gold multichrome magnetic pigment and silver holographic flakes.
Price: $12.00 USD
Cap: 150
Inspiration: As a pre-teen in southern California, I’d visit John’s Incredible Pizza with my cousins. There we would play all sorts of arcade games but our favorite was the Boogie Bump! This was a dark bumper car area with lots of flashy lights and loud music with the bumper cars have inflated tubes around them so you’d bump and slide back.

Magnetized

The below photo is ONE coat of this polish magnetized. This polish is definitely a one coater and you can see some magnetic pull with just one coat. As you can see, my own application was not even towards the back so I went with 2 coats to clean up the application lines haha!

Geekish Glitter Lacquer - Boogie Bump
Magnetized

My swatches are 2 coats of polish and topped with 1 coat of top coat.

WOW. As mentioned, this is a one coat magnetic!!! I am in shock! So the formula is such a perfect thickness that if you are better at magnetics than myself, I think you could literally wear one coat of this magnetized and have full coverage with a magnetic line. I still struggle with them sometimes, so I will go over my process below and I did literally forget a couple of my own tips and tricks from the last magnetic I swatched so I will go over them again here!
I do also want to say that I love the mix of colors and this is a gorgeous polish no matter how you wear it! I may be partial to unmagnetized mostly because I love the teal shift and I can’t get enough of it!

1. I forgot to apply thick coats.
This polish is such a nice thickness that I honestly just forgot the rule of magnetics to apply thick coats so you can get more magnetic pigment on your nail! haha! But there was still a magnetic line after that one thinner coat, but possibly not enough to remain visible as you can see in a couple of my photo below. I could see the small line better in person, but I think with my lights and everything, the line isn’t really visible in my photos. So I always recommend thicker coats. 🙂

2. I also forgot to shake the bottle of polish in between every coat.
I found this seemed to help with the last magnetic polish I swatched, but honestly I was in so much shock that this was a one coater, I think my brain just stopped working and I forgot how to do the things. So I do recommend shaking the polish bottle in between coats. This helps mix up the magnetic pigment probably a little bit more and probably gets more on the brush. I did do that on my pointer and pinky fingers and as you can see, those lines are more clear and visible, and they stay more visible.

3. I did end up doing two coats. I think most magnetics require you do 2-3 coats. I made sure to make the 2nd coat thicker and I think that helped some. I do think if I had shaken the bottle in between all of my coats, that would have helped my middle two fingers have a more visible line.

4. I did hold each nail under the magnet for one whole minute. I also held each nail under the magnet for a minute after top coating. I definitely recommend doing this because top coating can spread out the magnetic pigment. “Floating” your top coat brush over the nail so the brush doesn’t touch the nail probably helps as well, but I would still hold the magnet over the nail once top coat is applied. I have seen “Magnetic top coats” but I tried out one recently and I honestly didn’t see any difference after using it.

For my swatches a few photos down where my middle two fingers are not magnetized:
I did end up putting 1 more coat of polish over the 2 coats + top coat on my middle fingers to show the polish not magnetized, but this extra coat 100% looks the exact same as one coat alone. You can see my 1 coat of polish photo above as proof.

I love this shade of blue! And what a perfect mix of colors to represent the arcade! I always want to play the games but I also know I’m going to just end up winning just enough tickets to not really win a big prize. 😛
For application, I would recommend thicker coats when applying this polish as it is a jelly. I found that it evened out pretty well on its own with thicker coats. If you are wanting even more glitters (or this works for flakies too) on your nail, I always recommend holding the brush as flat to your nail as possible so more come off the brush and stay on your nail. 🙂 I did not fish for glitters in my swatches, but I did use the “flat” brush technique mentioned just so I wouldn’t miss any pink glitters. I almost used a glitter grabber top coat but I went ahead and just did one coat of regular top coat. I didn’t feel any texture except maybe a tiny tiny bit around the larger pink glitter circles, but nothing that bothered me at all. If you want full smoothness you can always use your glitter grabber top coat of choice.

This gorgeous pearly polish is really blowing my mind right now! The blue shimmer glow is amazing and I love the mix of colors and glitters. I imagine if you did 3 coats you might get full coverage, but I loved how it looked with 2 coats and some visible nail line (VNL) so I stopped there! I also love how it looks as a topper! Even though it isn’t described as a topper, it looks super cool over black and white! I included a photo at the bottom of my swatches of this polish over a black and white creme on a nail wheel.
It applied super easily and I felt no texture after only 1 coat of top coat. I didn’t fish for glitters or flakies and I am pretty darn happy with the mix I see spread out on my nail. 🙂

My swatches are 3 coats of polish and topped with 1 coat of top coat.

I am in flakie heaven! This polish applied super easily and 2 coats appeared to be almost full coverage, but I went with 3 just incase! I also wanted to make sure I had covered the front of my nail well enough. After doing 3 coats, I did let this polish dry by itself on my nail for a little bit before top coating (I especially make sure to do this if I use 3 coats) just so it has time to dry a little bit and I’m not risking smooshing the nail with the top coat.
The flakies in this one are gorgeous and shimmer and shine on their own, but gasp! This polish glows in the dark too! I love the bright blue glow and I think it’s such a fun addition! It does appear to glow a little bit more in person than in my photos–I still need more practice with glow in the dark photos. I do want to recommend shaking your bottle really well because sometimes the glow in the dark pigment can sink, but this is totally fine and won’t mess with the polish at all. 🙂

My swatches are 3 coats of polish and topped with 1 coat of top coat.

Now this is definitely a gorgeous flakie bomb! For my application I actually just applied it like a regular polish. I didn’t use the sponge on method which I hear does work well for flakie bombs. I did 3 coats and after 3 if there were any empty looking spots (there were a couple on the sides of my nails that I missed) then I just dabbed the brush onto the nail until it was covered. Even after having some dabs of polish everything seemed to level out quite nicely. I also gave my nails some time to dry in between coats just so I didn’t smoosh anything. I will also mention that if you feel like you’re not getting enough flakies on your nail, try applying the polish with the brush as flat as possible–more will come off the brush that way!
The flakies used are gorgeous and I love that there is actually a base color. It’s quite subtle and you might not even realize that it is there, but it is! The flakies also shift so much and quite easily from any angle as well!
I did end up going with one coat of top coat but I contemplated using a glitter grabber. I didn’t feel any texture on my nail though after only one coat so it must have worked decently well!

As you may already know, I am a huge fan of The Sassy Shark’s magnets! And this month’s is especially cute! This Frogger inspired magnet is made with love and I very much love the retro design and 8-bit frog. The mix of the blue resin and glitter definitely reminds me of water and jumping in between logs and other obstacles in the game.
The magnet itself is sturdy and well made. Dropping this (should that accidentally happen) shouldn’t cause any harm.
This will make a fine addition to your nerdy magnet collection, and I know mine is ready to welcome in another with open arms. 😉
